Screening Nurse

Screening Nurse or Occupational Health Technician- Northamptonshire

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and organised Screening Nurse or Occupational Health Technician to join our Occupational Health team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience in health screening, health surveillance, or healthcare support who is passionate about promoting employee wellbeing and maintaining high professional standards.

Working under the guidance and supervision of senior Occupational Health professionals, you will play a key role in delivering health screening programmes, supporting health promotion initiatives, and contributing to the assessment and management of workplace health risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and interpret pre-employment and pre-placement health screening assessments.
  • Deliver statutory and regulatory health surveillance programmes.
  • Undertake a range of health assessments including:
    • Blood pressure and pulse measurements
    • Height, weight and BMI calculations
    • Urinalysis
    • Audiometry (hearing assessments)
    • Spirometry (lung function testing)
    • Visual acuity and colour vision testing to occupational standards
  • Identify cases requiring escalation to senior Occupational Health colleagues.
  • Support the wider Occupational Health team with clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and written health records using Occupational Health systems.
  • Assist with the collection, analysis and reporting of health data to support service improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare clinics, calibrate and maintain equipment, and manage clinical stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection legislation and maintain strict medical confidentiality.
  • Work collaboratively with Occupational Health, Human Resources, Health and Safety teams, managers and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings, working groups and relevant training opportunities to support professional development.
  • Travel to various locations as required to provide Occupational Health services to employees and volunteers.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in a healthcare, Occupational Health, or clinical support environment.
  • Knowledge of health surveillance and screening procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Confidence using computerised record systems and healthcare software.
  • The ability to work independently within established protocols while recognising when clinical escalation is required.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and high standards of service delivery.
